From the age of 8, two wheels and motors engulfed Matt. His father ensured that he was competent in not only the operations of motorcycles, but the functionality of them as well. He began competing in some local Motorcross events by the age of 12, but found his love when he purchased his first road bike. Due to a military career in the United States Marine Corps, he never really had the opportunity to focus upon road racing other than the occasional club race and track days. In 2007, he was determined to get back on the track, where he found himself to be a more mature and faster rider than he had ever been.
